Spire Nursery and Infant School is committed to advancing equality and celebrating the diversity of the community. We celebrate diversity through our lessons, assemblies, events and day to day interactions. We promote tolerance and understanding and are anti-racist. We strive to instill these values in our pupils and the school community.
Equality Statement 2023
Spire Nursery and Infant School is committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school. Our policies and procedures ensure that there is equality of opportunity for all children. Our policy reflects the Equality Act of 2010 and ensures that all children are treated equally and given the support they need to succeed.
The Act sets out the Protected Characteristics - sex, race, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity. At Spire Nursery and Infant School all children, parents/carers and staff will be treated with respect.
Our equality objectives are as follows:
- To promote respect and undrstanding of a range of religions and cultures through different aspects of our curriculum. This includes teaching in RE, citizenship and personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE)
- To promote awareness and understanding of a range of different families, identities, backgrounds and situations through teaching in PSHE and RSE.
- To have whole school assemblies dealing with relevant issues whilst encouraging contributions from pupils and members of the wider community.
- To celebrate diversity by organising awareness events across school, to include examples such as national childrens mental health awareness day, Autism awareness week, Deaf awareness week etc.
